Thank you for visiting my site! I hope you enjoy my creations. I certainly enjoy creating them.
I am a lifelong citizen of beautiful Northern California. I've lived on the small family farm for most of my years. It's pretty quiet here in the country, there's more animals than there are people. Consequently, I've always spent a lot of "alone inside Joanne's head" time.
I have a theory as to why I am smitten with miniature dolls...Here goes: As a child, living way out in the "boonies", my physical world was pretty limited. If I couldn't get there by bicycle or on foot...I just couldn't go. Soooooooo, I liked to imagine myself as a tiny, fairy sized person. That made my world huge! Now a dribble from the garden hose would be a raging river or the inside of a pumpkin would be a wonder to explore, like a damp, spongey Carlsbad Cavern. I'd have a zillion of these mini adventures.
Now, my creatures have had a perfectly organic evolution. My creatures are a composite of all the animals I have known and loved. Wether they be pets, livestock or wild, the animals in my life have given me much joy, a lot of grief and a compassionate heart. I hope my delight in them comes out in my critters' faces and personalities.
I have been making dolls and critters for over 36 years now. I started with small dolls and animals of polymer clay and over the years I have expanded my methods and mediums to include porcelain and cast urethane resin.
